Negligible bias in bar exam, bar study finds
Results from first-time candidates, for a total of 116 essays and 36 performance tests, raised no major areas of concern with respect to how subgroups compared against each other, though slight differentials in gender balancing and cultural references were identified.




The State Bar has determined there is negligible bias in the bar exam, though slight differentials over a 10-year period have led to recommendations for gender balancing and avoidance of cultural references.
In 2019, the State Bar commissioned Scantron Corp. to look at bar exam results from 2009 to 2019.
