Landlords and tenants sue over plans for eviction ban

The root issue in this case, a government’s inefficiency in the administration of rental assistance, is a pertinent theme in the current post-lockdown housing crisis that is being experienced by landlords and tenants alike, according to attorneys involved in such litigation.

A new federal lawsuit by California apartment owners aims to illuminate the inefficiencies of housing assistance programs, including eviction bans, passed by the state and local governments at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, while another filed in state court by tenants’ groups says it is illegal for the government to undo the protections for those not paying their rent.
