State’s second largest elder care company faces 50-plus suits, attorney says

Sacramento attorney Edward P. Dudensing drafted several of the more than 50 lawsuits against the company, one alleging that Plum Healthcare “knowingly and deliberately understaffed and unfunded” facilities throughout the state “to the detriment of its residents; and … created the overall plan to maximize profits at the expense of patient care.”

Plum Healthcare, the second largest elderly care company in California, faces a multitude of lawsuits in which attorneys say neglect led to the wrongful deaths of elderly patients and violations of the Patient’s Bill of Rights at many facilities they operate.

The company, which has denied the allegations in court filings, is owned by and merged with The Providence Group, but has been operated by several other companies over the last decad...
