Mattel offered toys for tots instead of $50M, lawsuit says

The University of California says Mattel breached a contract to give $50 million to a children’s hospital that bears its name, changing the offer to toys and less cash.

The UC Regents accused Mattel of breach of contract for allegedly offering to substitute toys and less cash to fulfill a pledge of $50 million to a children’s hospital that bears the toy company’s name.

Mattel says it entered into a separate pledge agreement for the construction of a new tower at the hospital and UCLA Health decided not to build it, but tried to get the money for other purposes.
