Fan’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ sequel must be destroyed

“The estate hopes that the award of a permanent injunction and attorney’s fees will be sufficient to dissuade others who may have similar intentions,” Steven Maier of Maier Blackburn, the Tolkien Estate trust’s U.K. solicitor, said in a news release.

A fan’s unauthorized sequel to the “The Lord of the Rings” series constituted copyright infringement, a federal judge in Los Angeles ruled, ending a lawsuit by the late author J.R.R. Tolkien’s estate.
