Bankruptcy judge approves Sacramento diocese’s ability to pay bills

The U.S. Justice Department Attorney had filed an objection to the diocese’s cash management proposals.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento sailed through an initial hearing in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case on Thursday, with its ability to pay bills and salaries intact. But it remains to be seen how many of its tens of millions of dollars in assets it can protect in the face of 250 civil plaintiffs claiming childhood sexual abuse.
