Stockton agrees to pay $6M to settle police wrongful death lawsuit

“Police agencies must ensure their officers have a clear understanding of how important it is to place someone who is handcuffed and prone into the recovery position as fast as possible, which is what they are supposed to be doing,” plaintiffs’ attorney V. James DeSimone said.

The City of Stockton agreed to pay $6 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of a 29-year-old man who died after being held face down by police officers, attorneys representing the family announced Thursday at a news conference outside the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.
