Supreme Court to decide on constitutionality of anti-tax initiative

The initiative would require voter approval for any state proposals that raise taxes, including increases to fees and local measures with retroactive effects. Critics argue that the initiative is unconstitutional because it removes powers from the state Legislature and the governor.

The state Supreme Court is gearing up to consider a constitutional showdown next week over whether a major anti-tax measure sponsored by business groups should be struck down before voters can weigh in during the November election because such a constitutional revision can only be placed on the ballot by the Legislature.
