Newsom takes aim at California's building codes

The order directs the California Department of Housing and Community Development to work with other state agencies to lower the cost of building and promote urban infill as part of the 2025 building code adoption cycle.

Housing advocates say Gov. Gavin Newsom's latest executive order addresses a missing piece of California's homebuilding agenda. It remains to be seen if the effort will face the kind of litigation previous housing reforms have encountered.
