DNA tester 23andMe to pay $30M to end cyberattack class action

All U.S. residents whose personal information was compromised get part of the $30 million and 23andMe will certify "certain business practice commitments related to the security of users' personal information."

DNA tester 23andMe Inc. will pay $30 million to settle a consolidated class action related to a cyberattack last October that exposed the sensitive personal information of millions of people, attorneys wrote in a court filing last week.

A motion for preliminary approval of the agreement is pending before U.S. District Judge Edward M. Chen, an appointee of President Barack Obama.
