Rumors of the proposed "friendly takeover" became public last week but neither company has confirmed that a proposal is on offer. Some lawyers warned against seeing it as a harbinger for the large M&A market.

Qualcomm Inc.'s potential acquisition of Intel Corp. has given some lawyers who specialize in large cap M&A work a glimmer of hope that the foul merger landscape during the Biden administration might be brightening.

"It could be a positive sign that people are opening to larger deals, but the bigger picture is the regulatory landscape," Andrew Luh, a partner at Gunderson who specializes in technology sector M&A work, said in a phone interview.
