LADWP reaches $59M settlement over Sun Valley gas leak

San Fernando Valley residents sued the department in 2021, accusing it of allowing the station to leak gas over a period of years, causing numerous injuries to residents.

A settlement agreement of more than $59 million has been reached in a legal battle between the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and some 1,200 residents of Sun Valley and Pacoima who claimed they were injured by a gas leak at the Sun Valley Generating Station.

"This remarkable settlement will bring much needed relief and justice to these overlooked communities who were continuously poisoned for years," lead attorney R. Rex Parris said in a news release Thursday....
