Closing arguments start in copyright dispute over Shyamalan series

Closing arguments began after the last witness testified Thursday in the $81M lawsuit, arguing that superficial similarities between "Servant" and "The Truth About Emanuel" don't constitute copyright infringement when context is considered.

Closing arguments began Thursday afternoon in an $81 million copyright case against the creators of Apple TV's "Servant."

One of the last witnesses was a filmmaker, testifying as an expert, who said that although "cherry-picked" elements of a concept between two expressive works can give the impression that infringement occurred, those elements aren't always substantially similar when taken in complete context.
