San Francisco officials revive legislation to crack down on street vendors

The new measure, backed by Mayor Daniel Lurie and state Sen. Scott Wiener, would give law enforcement greater authority to cite and penalize illegal resellers while protecting legitimate vendors.

San Francisco officials are reviving state legislation to crack down on street vendors to curb the resale of stolen goods.

A similar measure stalled last year due to cost concerns. The new effort seeks to refine previous legislation, which aimed to protect legitimate vendors but, according to supporters, inadvertently made it harder for police to question people selling shoplifted merchandise.
