L.A. County opens probe into State Farm over delays, claim denials following 2021 fires
With thousands of policyholders alleging delays and inadequate payments after major January fires, L.A. County Counsel has demanded answers from State Farm about its claim-handling practices, joining a widening set of legal and regulatory challenges confronting the insurer.
Citing policyholder complaints of unwarranted delays or denials by State Farm General Insurance Company, the Los Angeles County Counsel's Office has opened an investigation into whether the insurer might have violated California's Unfair Competition Law.
The letter cited allegations that State Farm failed to address complaints by residents affected by the Eaton and Pacific Palisades fires in January, including requirements that it respond to communications within 15 days ...
