Cook has more than 30 years of litigation and dispute resolution experience. He worked in private practice for many years, including almost 20 years at Jones Day and, most recently, at the firm he founded, The Cook Law Firm. His success in the courtroom runs the gamut of commercial litigation. Since 2004, he has served as a court-appointed settlement officer, mediator and early neutral evaluator for various courts, including the California Courts of Appeal, the Los Angeles County Superior Court and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Prior to joining Duane Morris, Hire was an assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern and Central Districts of California. While chief of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Oakland, he supervised a team of assistant U.S. attorneys and staff handling investigations and prosecutions of matters involving wire and bank fraud, government program fraud, trade secret theft, computer hacking and data theft, economic espionage, environmental crimes, public corruption, tax evasion, money laundering, murder, racketeering, drug trafficking and sex crimes.
