Letter to the Editor - In response to my article "For Former ACLU Chief, July 4th Means Celebrating Fight Against Abuses," (Daily Journal, June 30) describing what the ACLU is doing to combat Bush Administration violations of civil liberties at home and human rights abroad, John Stewart wrote that while "vigilance is important to keep government practices within the bounds of the law," the "ACLU's actions also serve to undermine many treasured American values."
