S.F. Prosecutor Moves From Gangs to Homicide

SAN FRANCISCO - District Attorney Kamala Harris appointed a veteran gang prosecutor Thursday as the new head of her homicide unit. George Butterworth, who has specialized in gang violence cases, will take over the high-profile homicide unit while the city is reeling from a soaring murder rate, especially among black and Hispanic gang members.
