Merck Loses Fight to Scatter California Cases

LOS ANGELES - As Merck & Co. girds itself to defend against thousands of lawsuits around the country related to its painkiller, Vioxx, the pharmaceutical giant has lost a procedural skirmish in Los Angeles that could have removed some 40 percent of California cases from state to federal jurisdiction.
