Excessive Verdicts Affect Both 'Real People' and 'the Powerful'

During his campaign for president in 2000, Al Gore boiled down his message to the slogan "the people vs. the powerful." That slogan attempted to erect a wall between so-called "real people" and the supposedly sinister and deep-pocketed corporations who should be made to pay for alleged societal wrongs.
