Senate confirms San Diego district court judge

U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo won Senate confirmation Thursday to join the district court bench in San Diego on a 90-6 vote, despite calls from a GOP senator to oppose her in protest.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo won Senate confirmation Thursday to join the district court bench in San Diego on a 90-6 vote.


Bencivengo will fill a vacancy that's been designated as a judicial emergency in the Southern District of California, which has been inundated by immigration cases, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said on the Senate floor.
