A Year of Contraction

The changes in the annual roundup of Northern California's 20 largest law firms won't be found in the names. No firm jumped onto the list or fell off of it. That's not to say 2009 was a continuation of the year prior. Instead, it was a year of financial strain that caused firm leaders to rethink associate compensation, client billing and staffing models.
