Ashcroft Denies Insensitivity to Race and Gays

WASHINGTON - Attorney General-nominee John Ashcroft, responding to intense grilling from Senate Democrats during his confirmation hearing Wednesday, repeatedly denied that he is insensitive to race and pledged to enforce laws with which he does not agree, including those protecting a woman's right to abortion.
