Jeffer Mangels: EMULEX CONNECTS WITH GIGANET FOR $645 MILLION

Costa Mesa's Emulex Corp. will buy Giganet Inc. of Concord, Mass. The stock deal is worth $645 million. Publicly held Emulex develops and supplies fiber channel technology for storage network connectivity products. Its hardware and software improve communication in computer networks and enhance data flow between computers and peripherals. EMC Corp., IBM Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. are its largest customers.
