Gambling on a trial pays off

Personal injury case ends with $600,000 jury verdict, after insurer refuses to settle.

LOS ANGELES - Injuries from a low-speed, rear-end collision for which State Farm Insurance Co. offered to pay $29,000 resulted in a $651,000 jury verdict.


Making the May 17 verdict all the more remarkable, plaintiffs' attorneys say, was that the jury was assembled in San Pedro, a small port district in southern Los Angeles County not known for whopping rewards for plaintiffs.
