Prisoner Released Due to Ineffective Assistance of Counsel

After years of trying to overturn an attempted murder conviction, Rafael Madrigal has been released from state prison in Chino, thanks to the California Innocence Project.

LOS ANGELES - After years of trying to overturn an attempted murder conviction, Rafael Madrigal on Tuesday was released from state prison in Chino, where he has been serving a 53-to-life sentence.

U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess in September struck down Madrigal's conviction based on ineffective assistance of counsel after the California Innocence Project took up his case.
