For Children, a Few Rays of Hope

LOS ANGELES - Like many other stories about 2001, the tale of juvenile justice in Los Angeles last year was one of tragedy and courage. The year began with the Los Angeles Juvenile Court searching for answers in the tragic late-December deaths of two former foster children who were thrown by their emotionally disturbed mother, LaShanda Crozier, from the 9th-story balcony of the downtown civil courthouse. Crozier then committed suicide by jumping from the same balcony.
