San Francisco raises bail fees for dozens of felony and misdemeanor offenses

The move is a recent example of what observers say is the continuing increase of bail schedules statewide, which has drawn criticism for placing costly burdens on indigent defendants and overcrowding jails.

What might have cost $75,000 to post bail for a felony assault with a firearm charge in San Francisco last year could now cost $125,000.


That's because the county's superior court recently raised bail for dozens of felony and misdemeanor offenses as part of its legally mandated annual review of its bail schedule.
