Copyright damages under scrutiny

As discussion on a comprehensive new copyright statute crawls forward, a major focal point will be the debate on whether limits on statutory damages for copyright infringement should be adjusted - higher or lower.

Last year, U.S. Register of Copyrights Maria A. Pallante urged Congress to consider crafting a new, comprehensive statute to bring copyright law into the digital age.


While a new copyright law would encompass numerous subjects, experts say that one major focal point will be the debate on whether limits on statutory damages for copyright infringement should be adjusted - higher or lower.
