Judge stops just short of approving settlement in case against Hyundai and Kia

A federal judge did everything Thursday but sign an order certifying a nationwide class and preliminarily approving what could be a $400 million settlement in a lawsuit against Hyundai and Kia over inflated fuel economy numbers.

LOS ANGELES - A federal judge Thursday said he will certify a nationwide class and give preliminary approval to what could be a $400 million settlement in a lawsuit against Hyundai Motor America and Kia Motors America over inflated fuel economy numbers.
