Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Stanford Law School professor Mariano-Florentino Cuellar as the newest member of the California Supreme Court Tuesday morning.
The governor decided to leave open the seat left vacant by the retirement of Justice Joyce L. Kennard, who left the bench in April. Instead, Cuellar will replace Justice Marvin R. Baxter when he departs in January.
