More than 2,500 federal drug offenders in California could be eligible for reduced sentences

The Central District is poised to face the highest number of reviews from current inmates who could get lower sentences for their nonviolent drug offenses, after a federal planel voted Friday to retroactively apply a recent amendment.

Federal judges in California could start reviewing cases in November for the more than 2,500 estimated federal prisoners in the state who may be eligible for sentence reductions for their nonviolent drug offenses.
