FCC faces tough challenge over Internet regulation proposal

Many of the 780,000 comments on net neutrality policy made a perhaps unexpected call for tighter regulation than the FCC itself proposes - to reclassify Internet service providers as common carriers of a public utility.

After receiving an estimated 780,000 comments, the Federal Communications Commission has extended to Friday the deadline for feedback on how it should regulate Internet service providers and what its stance on net neutrality should be.
