New law targets gifts to student athletes

New legislation signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown Monday will require sports agents to give up any profits earned as a result of giving gifts to student athletes.

New legislation signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown Monday will require sports agents to give up any profits earned as a result of giving gifts to student athletes.

A.B. 238, which was co-sponsored by the governor's office and the office of the Los Angeles City Attorney, also mandates that sports agents convicted of such activity be suspended from conducting business as a sports agent.
