Are the wide political divisions in our country today akin to a second civil war? Maybe. But on Jan. 26, California took the first unlikely step toward another civil war by authorizing a signature drive for a constitutional amendment allowing California to secede from the union. Such a move - if approved by the voters and not blocked by the courts - almost certainly would lead to catastrophe, if not war.
