Kaiser employee fired because of son's health care costs, jury told

A former medical assistant alleges Southern California Permanente Medical Group terminated her because it wanted to rid itself of the costs to treat her son needed for a kidney-related illness.

SAN DIEGO — A medical assistant maintains she was illegally fired by Southern California Permanente Medical Group because of the health care provider's growing concerns about the costs to treat her son's chronic illness, lead plaintiff's attorney David M. deRubertis told a San Diego County Superior Court jury Tuesday.
