State appeals court panel overturns arbitrator's $30 million award

Justices said in a 3-0 decision published Tuesday that the 2015 award by Peter Shenas, formerly of American Arbitration Association, violated fundamental procedural fairness principles and should be vacated.

In a rare move, a $30.8 million arbitration award has been overturned because the 4th District Court of Appeal concluded the arbitrator exceeded his authority by including punitive damages.
