A state appellate court Tuesday ordered a new trial in a decade-long scuffle over unpaid legal fees between a Santa Monica attorney and his client - another attorney - after the former significantly amended his complaint on the fourth day of a five-day jury trial and increased the damages he sought by more than sixfold.
