State Cash Crunch Halts Work on Courthouse

Construction has now stopped on the new $26.5 million courthouse for the 4th District Court of Appeal, Division Three. The project is about 75 percent done and needs another $6 million for completion, according to project manager Clifford Hamm, the state judicial system's principal architect.

SANTA ANA - The good news is that when financially strapped California halted funding to nearly 2,000 construction projects around the state last month, only two courthouse projects were affected.

The bad news for the Santa Ana branch of the state Court of Appeal is that many of its justices could be out on the street come summer.
