State Sued Over Shelter Conditions
SAN FRANCISCO - Youth advocates filed suit here Monday seeking to improve conditions in overcrowded youth shelters across the state. Filed by lawyers at San Francisco's Youth Law Center, the suit says the state Department of Social Services has shirked its duty to license and oversee public shelters that house children removed from abusive homes. As a result, the lawyers claim, shelters housing thousands of children have grown overcrowded and dangerous.
