Walk into any supermarket and there are more product choices than one realistically needs. Take ice cream. What flavor? Ice cream, ice milk, sorbet, sherbet or gelato? What size? Pint, half-gallon, gallon? With or without added ingredients, such as nuts, cookies? Low fat? No-fat? Pure fat? Dairy or non-dairy? Standing with the freezer door open until your nose hairs freeze to make a choice may work for ice cream, but the same process does not work for choosing a mediator.
