HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - Strong fourth-quarter performance helped luxury hotel spas post improvements in overall 2009 results from 2008, reported Smith Travel Research. The average treatment rate for 2009, a key element in measuring the sector's conditions, was at $135.39, a 4.5 percent decline from 2008. Another component, the average treatment room utilization, increased 3.6 percent to 31.1 percent. The average daily rate for the luxury spa segment declined 16.3 percent in 2009 to $243, while demand declined 0.6 percent.
