Chip deal dies under antitrust concerns

The merger's collapse is the latest in an active federal antitrust environment, legal experts say.

Two longstanding Silicon Valley chipmakers, KLA Tencor Corp. and Lam Research Corp., scrapped a $10.6 billion merger Wednesday after the Justice Department announced it would not consent to the deal based on concerns of harm to competition in the semiconductor industry.
