Brown rejects parental leave bill

California is reputedly one of the most pro-family leave states in the country, but Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bill to extend leave to almost 3 million employees.

California is reputedly one of the most pro-family leave states in the country, but Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bill to extend parental leave to almost 3 million employees. In rejecting the bill at the 11th hour of the legislative session, Brown pushed for something unprecedented in state employment law — a government mediation process before a lawsuit can be filed.
