The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit struck down three patents held by Intellectual Ventures Management LLC and granted victory to defendants Symantec Corp. and Trend Micro Inc.
A panel majority held Friday that the Intellectual Ventures patents covered abstract activity and were too conventional to retain federal protection.
