Governor signs bill aimed at reducing deportations

Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill that will allow people with misdemeanor convictions to apply to have their sentences reduced to 364 days in order to avoid deportation.

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill that will allow people with misdemeanor convictions to apply to have their sentences reduced to 364 days in order to avoid deportation.

SB 1242 builds on another bill passed by the same author, Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, in 2014.
