Circuit Leaning Toward Same-Sex Benefits

The 9th Circuit on Monday heard an Arizona government lawyer try to justify barring health insurance benefits for state employees' same-sex partners. Skeptical jurists seemed likely to extend the circuit's pro-equal rights role.
