Architect Don Crosby had his name on his firm's masthead for more than 30 years, but for the past five years it's been missing. He forewent the honor when he and former partner Pam Helmich merged their San Francisco practice with the Emeryville-based Ratcliff Architects. Ratcliff, established in 1906, is the oldest architectural practice west of the Mississippi, he explains, and it only made sense the name should remain pre-eminent in what was in fact a merger of equals.
