Most Dead Children in L.A. County Were Poor, Ethnic

Many of the 187 kids who died unnatural deaths in Los Angeles County in 1998 were minorities from poor families that had had previous or ongoing contact with child protective services. In all, according to data released Friday, 49 children were murdered, 95 perished in accidents, 28 died of undetermined causes and 15 kids killed themselves.
