Pension fund question in San Bernardino bankruptcy case could reach high court

A bankruptcy judge is expected to rule Friday on whether San Bernardino can renege on payment obligations to the California Public Employees' Retirement System as the city seeks Chapter 9 relief.

A bankruptcy judge is expected to rule Friday on whether San Bernardino can renege on payment obligations to the California Public Employees' Retirement System as the city seeks Chapter 9 relief.


Legal observers say the case will likely make its way to the state Supreme Court, as the city is the first in the state to quit making payments to the pension fund amid bankruptcy proceedings.
